CHARLES BLOOM
Charles Bloom (composer/lyricist/librettist) was born to Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, the late Harold Jack Bloom and actress Carolyn Kearney so, clearly, his life in the arts began at home.
His first composing effort, TOMMY'S WORLD (about his younger, mentally retarded brother, Tom) was written at age 14 and was chosen by The California Arts Council to represent the state during the1990 Special Olympics.
He moved to New York to study music formally at New York University. He has studied privately with Joel Ewing, Ira Antelis, Don Bondi, and Dr. William Teaford. Then, back to Los Angeles to enjoy a brief, but successful acting career.
Now, with over 400 songs, parodies, and pieces of special material in his ever-growing catalogue, Charles' works have been heard in every kind of venue from cabarets to concert halls on both coasts. Among the long list of talented artists to perform his songs are Michael Feinstein, B. D. Wong, Andrea Marcovicci, Ron Seykell, David Engel, Amy Ryder, Vicki Lewis, Bruce Vilanch, Lindy Robbins, and Michael Greer.
For the theatre, Mr. Bloom has written the book, music and lyrics to PABLO, INSOMNIA, and HEAVEN KNOWS. For television, he has composed the music and lyrics to MICKEY'S FUN SONGS (Walt Disney Productions) and a cable project for PBS entitled IT'S OUR TIME. Simultaneously with his theatre work, he has collaborated with two-time Academy Award winning composer Al Kasha on an animated musicalization of SAMSON AND DELILAH.
Charles has taught a lyric workshop entitled, "Lyrics: A Way With Words" with Broadway On Sunset, an LA organization devoted to the development of new musicals. In addition to his professional involvements, Charles is particularly proud of having consistently contributed musical material to a variety of AIDS-related benefits, hospice projects, spititual organizations and many charitable causes.
